STAR News: Lauren King on the SRC motion to stop banking with RBS over Tar Sands

On Tuesday 7th February, the Students Representative Council proposed the motion that the Students Association stop banking with RBS because of the bank's support of the Tar Sands oil extraction project.
Some climate scientists and environmentalists call this 'the most destructive project on earth' due in part to its cancerous effects on the local community's water supplies. The SRC has accepted the motion, and plan to initiate a change of bank in March.
Patrick O'Hare said that students have been pushing for ethical investment policies for the University since 2008, and he's pleased the Union is putting their money where their mouth is. RBS has invested more than any other UK company in the Tar Sands project.
STAR News Reporter Kelly Satchell spoke to Lauren King, a member of the OneWorld Society who proposed the motion, about her first hand experience seeing the effects of the Tar Sands extraction and why she feels the RBS boycott is so important.
