Award winning director to work with St. Andrews students
Tomorrow the university will have the pleasure of welcoming Lawrence Boswell, a celebrated theatre director who has worked for the likes of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the West End and even Madonna.
The Lawrence Olivier award for Best Comedy for his production of Ben Elton’s Popcorn, the Elle Style Director of the Year Award for his work with Matt Damon and Jake Gylenhall and the International Theatre Society Award are just some of the prestigious awards he holds to his name.
Very fittingly, on the afternoon of Valentine’s Day he will be conducting a workshop with a group of second year French students, who will have the opportunity to work with the famous director on Act One, Scene 1 of Marivaux’s La Seconde Surprise de l’Amour. The play, first performed in 1727, is a comedy about La Marquise, a young aristocratic widow and Le Chevalier, a young man whose beloved Angélique has left him. Having both eternally renounced Love, they are taken by surprise when they realise that in fact they have found the perfect match in each other.
Any spectators are warmly invited to attend the workshop. It will take place upstairs in the Union, at the Salad Bowl from 2pm until 4.45pm. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to see a master director in action!
