Motion passed by SSC supporting plans to make LGBT a Sub-committee
The SSC voted last night in favour a motion in support of St Andrews LGBT society becoming a new Association sub-committee, noting that the society "offers an invaluable service to the student body".
The motion passed proposed creating an Association LGBT & Sexualities Committee, combing the role of LGBT Society President and SRC Officer for Sexualities into the single position of LGBT & Sexualities Officer. This position would be elected by the entire student in the elections in March and allow representation on both the SRC and the SSC.
The change to the LGBT Society would allow it access to a larger yearly budget direction from the Students Association, and also make membership automatic for all students like all other sub-committees such as STAR and Mermaids.
Similar motions will need to be passed by the SRC and the Board before any formal changes to the status of the LGBT Society can be made.
