Present at an oil-sponsored event at the Heritage Foundation, Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman reviewed his position with regard to defending climate science. After publicly mocking his fellow candidates for disputing global warming in August, Huntsman now said that ‘the science community owes us more in terms of a better explanation about what might lie beneath all of this’. He claimed that ‘There are questions about the validity of the science – evidence by one University over in Scotland recently’. However, it is not quite clear which Scottish University Huntsman is referring to because all 15 Universities are signatories of the ‘Universities and Colleges Climate Commitment of Scotland’ which states that ‘we recognise the scale and speed of climate change’. In short, the establishment the candidate was alluding to does not seem to exist. Furthermore, the University of St Andrews clearly emphasized that climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today.
