France and Germany call for new EU treaty
The leaders of France and Germany, Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkosy have called for a new EU treaty to solve the debt crisis. If agreed the treaty would mean less sovereign control over budgets and deficits for the 21 members of the single currency.
However, with Mr. Sarkosy facing an election next year, he may find passing reforms difficult.
