Presenting
The presenters are the most visible (well audible) aspect of the station. Each broadcast we wipe the schedule, giving everyone the opportunity to record an audition for their chance to present their own show.
Production
The production team are responsible for a whole range of activities whilst the station is both on-air and off-air. In the build up to the broadcast you can get involved in creating jingles and other pieces of interesting audio to spice up the broadcast. While we are on the air, the job of the producer is two-fold:
First, it is one-half of the creative team behind a show. The producer works with the DJ(s) to prepare for each show by planning the links and playlist in advance; also, the producer is responsible for making any jingles specific to their show.
Second, the producer handles all the technical aspects of a show. This means working with state-of-the-art equipment including a mixing board, a CD deck, STAR's very own DJ software, and others. No previous experience is needed to be a part of the team and we have people who at first had trouble with the CD players but are now technical wizards, mixing songs and creating spectacular jingles.

IT and Technical
The IT + Tech team are one of the many teams that make up STAR.
The IT side of the team look after pretty much anything that uses a computer, the website, the streaming server and the computers within the studio. The Tech side of the team are responsible for getting the studio ready before each broadcast and looking after it during the broadcast. Both sides of the team are closely linked with other parts of STAR, meaning there's always something to be done.
If you want to get involved in the IT + Tech team take a look at the list below which covers the main skills we're after.
* Operating Systems (Linux, Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server)
* XHTML + CSS
* PHP + MySQL (or PostgreSQL)
* Icecast
* Studio set-ups
Music
The music team is a small group of people, who have the responsibility of listening to all the demo CD's we are sent, and creating the playlists that make up the bulk of the daytime music that we play.
Advertising
The job of the advertising team is simple: To ensure that every single person in St Andrews listens to STAR.
We use the traditional methods such as posters, flyers, cards, word of mouth and media advertising tools and this year we will be trying some un-traditional methods that will get the people of St Andrews listening to the radio. The advertising team will be running events to raise awareness of the station such as road shows and various 'Have a Go' events. We will also be increasing the radio profile within the local community by targeting schools, shops and other public buildings.
The team encompasses many different skills. If you can draw, paint, design, use computer design software, are imaginative, creative, knowledgeable about trends, good at branding, good at fashion design, have ideas for funky clothes or just want to learn about any of the above then you have found your calling at university.
Marketing
Here at STAR we have a cracking Fundraising Team whos job it is to - well, raise funds for the station! We offer local businesses the chance to sponsor all of our different shows, and we really do appreciate all the support, as we rely on the funds raised in this way to keep STAR up and running!
Community Relations
Community Relations is an exciting and rapidly expanding sector of STAR. Our aim is to improve community links; let students know about community events and to highlight the work of student and non-student groups and societies that make a positive contribution to the community here in St Andrews.
