In the run up to a St Andrews Festival and a St Andrews student production of his first work, Gagarin Way, STAR met up with the award winning Scottish Playwright Gregory Burke to discuss his work, career and Scottishness. With his most acclaimed work to date, Black Watch, recently listed as a cultural landmark of the last decade Burke gives an insight into the inspiration, politics and human instincts that have driven his plays and ensured their success around the world.
On the weekend of the G20 conference in St Andrews STAR followed the events of the various demonstrations going on in town. On Friday we interviewed protesters at the "Nae Tae G20" rallye in Church Square. On Saturday we were at the East and West Sands following the demonstrations and we also interviewed the main speakers of the People's Summit which was held in the Union.
Over the late November weekend of the St Andrews Festival, the STAR News Team got exclusive interviews with the organizers behind some of the best events the celebration had to offer. We spoke to Alison Jones, the artistic creator of the Wildfire show; Dr David Martin-Jones, a professor from the Film Studies department who launched a book on Scottish cinema; Ross Ashton, the designer who did the son et lumiere short films and light installations;

Star met with Carolanne Hazelwood the student liaison police officer to talk about St.Andrews and staying safe. She tell us how to plan for personal safety when you are out and about while also offering advice on how to keep your home safe. PC Hazelwood also touches on bike safety and the issue of theft.

On Monday, the 26th of April, the Union Debating Society hosted their version the BBC's 'Question Time', asking MP candidates of Fife North-East to answer students' questions. Candidates representing the UK Independence Party, Liberal Democrats, Labour Party, and Conservative Party give their positions on variety of topics. While attempts were made to include the Scottish National Party, their representative was unable to attend the debate.
Last week Cordula Schnuer from the STAR News Team sat down with Rector Kevin Dunion to chat about the past academic year. They reviewed some of the highlights of this year, such as the People's Summit which took place in opposition to the G20 or the recent On the Rocks festival. Kevin also talked more about his role as the Rector of the University of St Andrews and his time in office so far. STAR discussed some of the challenges facing the University such as affordability and the Union refurbishment and the Rector's role as the Chair of the University Court.
